I use it because it is very fast for quick looks at pdfs in preference to opening heavier PDF apps, even for viewing pdf docs sent to me (just grab and drop over Safari).

But, and here I agree with your sentiment, you need the real thing for serious perusal of large pdfs. If the OP did use the above plugin, there is a button on it that appears at the top of the window which launches the pdf in any standalone pdf app that you choose.
